Friday Favs

Happy Black Friday, everyone! Congrats on surviving Thanksgiving! It’s my first Friday Favs post here at the new blog – Yay!

1- It is physically impossible to watch this less than a million times. (Be sure your volume is on.)

2. I got an email coupon for 40% off one item at Michaels, so I decided to stop by and pick up a new coloring book. (Hooray, adulthood!) Of course, after like 15 minutes of flipping through every one they carry to pick out the very best one, I found out that you can’t use coupons on books there. How silly is that? I bought it anyway (It’s this one from the Leisure Arts Color Art series!)

I loved pretty much all of the books from that series, so now I’m trying to resist buying several more on Amazon! (Okay, immediately after typing this I ordered the Jungle Wonders one, too. Amazon has a promo for 30% off one book today, so it was only $4.19!)

3. Speaking of coloring, my favorite thing this week has been watching my evening news shows with a coloring book and a drink. Not sure what this says about my maturity level?

Mimosa flavored Pinnacle vodka is delicious, btw.

4. I survived Thanksgiving dinner with my mom, 3 sisters, 3 nieces, one nephew in law (is that a thing?) and 2 of my nieces’ kids. (Great nephews? Clearly I have no idea how families work.) It involved multiple breaks for quiet time with kittens and wine, but nobody killed anyone and only one adult cried, so I’d say it was a pretty solid holiday!

5. Has the sky just been crazy cool where you live lately, too? I’ve been obsessed with clouds and sunsets!

Who I Am

A shiny new blog feels like it calls for an introductory “about me” type of post! I know some of you have been following me on the old blog for ages (you guys are the best!), but hopefully you’ll find something interesting in here anyway! And thus, I present a random list of things about me!

I wake up looking like this.

I grew up in Missouri, moved to Florida in my mid-20s to work for Disney, and then ended up back in MO a few years ago. I’m working my booty off to be able to afford to move back to Orlando ASAP!

I love Florida’s wackiness. There’s a news story about gators or crazy criminals or fist fights in the Publix deli almost every day, and it always delights me!

I’m a freelance writer, editor, and social media doer of stuff. (technical term.)

Few things make me happier than travel. I have what I call “anywhere but here” syndrome. I don’t even care where we’re going, let’s just go!

My Hogwarts house is Ravenclaw.

I really love my cats. If you follow me on Twitter or IG, you will see a lot of them.

Speaking of which, I have two of both of those! I think I love yoga because it’s the only physical thing I’ve ever been naturally good at.

I’m not really that into the sportsballing, other than Orlando City Soccer.

I believe in owning less of pretty much everything except clothes. (and cats)

Speaking of clothes, I love buying ugly thrift store dresses and transforming them into something cute!

I miss dance, even though I’m not naturally skilled at it, like, at allll. I really want to take a bunch of dance classes when I get back to Florida, but the awkwardness of being a beginner does make me nervous.

I have developed a sort of superhuman tolerance to caffeine. I will take ALL the coffee, please and thank you!

When runway shows on style.com have a “details” photo gallery? It’s basically my favorite thing.

Staying current on what’s going on in the world is so important to me, as is voting!

Fresh Starts and Blue Skies

Starting over is a scary thing, but it’s also exciting. Let’s do it.

I’ve been blogging over at Straight On Till Morning since 2004, and at some point that decade+ of old posts just started to feel heavy. I considered sprucing things up, a good redesign, deleting some old posts, but the idea of a totally fresh start on a new blog was irresistible, so here we are. If you’ve followed me over here, thanks so much for sticking around! You’re the best!

So, what’s all of this Blue Sky business? Well, I knew when I started the new site that I wanted my main focus to be exploring the world, both via travel and adventures right at home. But I’ve never been one for sticking to a niche, so I knew there would also be a lot of the other things I love – fashion, books, my awesome cats, yoga, coffee… life in general. I’ve always been terrible at naming things (My first blog from 2000-2004 was called “Insert Witty Title Here”!) so I spent days trying to think of words that captured the essence of all of the things I love. (No pressure or anything!)

The phrase “and blue sky” seemed to stick, so I started brainstorming what could go with blue skies. Bliss and Blue Sky? Beach and Blue Sky? Open Road and Blue Sky? Backpack and Blue Sky? The list goes on, but I couldn’t pick, and I realized it was because I want it all.

Let’s see where this thing goes!
